PHOTOS OF 2006 MEETING Page 6
Below are photos taken at the 2006 meeting and barbeque in Carrollton, Arkansas.
Above is the replica of the original rock cairn grave marker placed in Mountain Meadows, Utah, in May of 1859 by Beveret Major James Henry Carlton. On the cross a soldier carved the works "Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saithe the Lord." The replica was built and placed next to the Yell Lodge, in Carrollton, Arkansas where the 2006 meeting was held. The Mormon Church would not and will not place a cross in the rock cairn they built at the grave site (property owned by the LDS church) in Mountain Meadows, UT. The replica grave marker was completely funded and built by the MMMF. (map) For more information on the replica click here. To read inscription on cross click on above image or here. (See sketch of original rock cairn)
At the base of the Cairn Carlton's men placed a "slab of granite set in the earth" and inscribed the following words: "Here 120 men, women and children were massacred in cold blood early in September, 1857, They were from Arkansas."
Above is the Yell Lodge NO. 64, Chartered in 1852, F.& A.M. (Free & Accepted Masons). The Lodge was restored by funds from the MMMF and the VFW. View sign | map
