Objectives are to perpetuate our family traditions, foster and promote fellowship and
the strong ties of brotherly affection that bound our
forebears together, stress strongly the idea of good
citizenship: and sponsor a Annual Family Reunion; encourage
the gathering and sharing of family history and objects to
aid in honoring our past and promote remembrance of the
Mountain Meadow Massacre and continue the efforts to bring
about the public awareness and hold the Mormon Church's
leadership accountable for the Massacre. Other objective can
be established with all family relationships including the
survivors of the Mountain Meadow Massacre and their kin.
ELIGIBLITY:
Anyone is eligible for membership in the Society who can establish a line of connection with Richard Fancher, or with either of his brothers, whether or not the name Fancher is borne. No Fancher will be excluded regardless of family origin.
HISTORY:
The first recorded Fancher family reunion was held on August 29, 1948 on the Joe Fancher Farm. The early organizers were Billy Fancher, J. E. Simpson, Harley Fancher, Sr. Flem Atchley and J. K. Fancher, Sr. The registration book for the 1948 reunion is in the possession of Harley Fancher, Jr.
INCORPORATION:
THE RICHARD FANCHER SOCIETY was incorported in the State of Arkansas, on January 11, 2007, with the same mission statement as was used when it was first organized on August 28, 1949.
