John Fancher Descendant - Lee was the great grandson twice removed of John Fancher the brother of Captain Alexander Fancher. |
In 1988 he and Ron Loving drove to Lee's Ferry to meet with the Lee descendants breaking ground for the the building of the Rock Cairn and Monument we now have at the Mountain Meadows Massacre Site. |
Services were held on December 21, 2007 at the Visalia District Cemetery, in Visalia, California. |

He attended the Visalia Schools, graduating from Visalia Union High School in 1950, he then served in the United States Air Force. |
He was employed ITT Kellogg at Vandenburg Air Force Base. During this period he was associated with the Thor, Altas and Titan missile projects. |
He also worked forQuintron Systems in Santa Maria, and at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Leland remained there at Quintron Systems until his retirement as a Quality Control Supervisor. While at Quintron Systems he was involved in building the consoles for the Houston Space center. |
He met Vivian Bowen the, love of his life, and they were married on October 23, 1971 in Carson City , Nevada , |
Leland and Vi made their home in the Santa Maria , area and they built a beautiful home on the out skirts of town. He was a craftsman and their home was very comfortably furnished using his finish carpenter skills. |
He was very active in the bowling leagues in Santa Maria |
He also was a very avid deer hunter and made numerous trips into the Jordan Family Buck camp, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains east of Quaken Aspen. |
Leland was also very dedicated to the family, a member of the Jordan Family Reunion Committee, member of the Mountain Meadows Association, and a very knowledgeable family historian especially in stories handed down by family old timers. He was always helpful to family member at our reunions helping them to tie family members together using the picture boards and books. |
He was descended from 3 pioneer families, Captain John Jordan, John Fancher and the Reynolds family. Leland was noted for being very loyal to his many friends. |
Leland is survived by his wife Vi of Santa Maria, brother Claud Jordan of French Camp, Jim Jordan of Visalia , and numerous nieces and nephews. |
