Dr. Garland Hurt. The Utes at the Spanish Fork Indian Farm called Indian agent Hurt "the American" and help him escape from the Nauvoo Legion, the Mormon militia in September 1857. He carried word of the Mountain Meadows Massacre to the Army that November.
